christmas cards

in college i had a little card-making business. i had 2 or 3 customers, and my cards were in a store or two. i didn’t make any money off it, this was in the days before etsy! i really enjoyed the process of designing then producing cards. i started sending out hand made christmas cards then, and have been doing it every year since.
some years have been better than others. i generally stick to easy designs, to keep stress levels low. above are some past cards: the first is a painting on canvas “paper”, the snowman is made from cut paper, the tree is a potato stamp, and then there’s my poor dog gus, who was forced to sit in front of the tree for a good 20 minutes while i shot a roll of film.
my favorite card is after the jump…
thanks, martha! the pop-up card idea was in one of her christmas issues years ago. it was a lot of work to make 40 of them, but they are pretty cool:

so, now as the holidays approach i must come up with a new design for 2007… since i’ve been having so much fun with block printing lately, i’ll probably do a printed card. assuming i don’t lose a finger while carving. yikes, it’s dec 12, i’d better get moving!
