functional felt swap!

functional felt swap
painted fish studio and three sneaky bugs are pairing up to organize a functional felt swap!

create a functional piece using felt by the sheet/yard, or knit a piece and felt it! or upcycle, and felt old sweaters or scarves! or try wet felting! by functional, we mean it should be something you can carry, wear, put stuff in, put stuff on, and so on… it just needs to be made with felt. we don’t want to give specific ideas as we want to see what you come up with! but i will say, for as much as i love felted rocks, they really aren’t functional… if you need inspiration, flickr has some great felting groups, and the craftzine.com blog has lots of felting projects in their archives.

here’s the schedule:

wednesday, april 2 : sign-up opens.

wednesday, april 16 : sign-up closes. start thinking about your approach.

wednesday, april 23 : you will receive your swap partner’s information, and you can get started!

wednesday, may 28 : your functional felt should be in the mail!

you will be paired up with someone that is not paired up with you, and we leave it to your discretion as to whether or not you want to contact them while you are creating. personally, i love surprises! and please note that you may be paired with someone overseas, so keep that in mind when you’re designing and creating your piece (if it’s big and heavy, shipping costs may be high).

to participate, please send the following information to functionalfeltswap {at} gmail {dot} com:

  1. your name
  2. your email address
  3. your mailing address
  4. your favorite colors
  5. your preference to an adult item or item for a child

we’ve created a flickr group and would love to have participants upload their work! also, feel free to grab the badge i created and stick it on your site or blog.

for updates on the swap, visit the functional felt swap section on our blogs: paintedfishstudio.com or threesneakybugs.wordpress.com. feel free to leave questions via the comments section, or by emailing us at functionalfeltswap {at} gmail {dot} com.

yay! we’re both so excited to see what happens, and to make new friends! jen & anna

the fine print:
you will receive swap information via email from functionalfeltswap {at} gmail {dot} com. PLEASE check your junk/spam folders to make sure communications from us are received. it’s a good idea to add the email address to your “white” list.

although we are organizing this swap please understand we are not responsible for the quality or timeliness of your swap partner. this is just for fun and the risk is part of that fun. if you do not receive your package by june 28th email us at functionalfeltswap {at} gmail {dot} com and we will attempt ONE time to contact your swap partner. participants that fail to follow through with their end of the swap by one month after june 28th will not be able to participate in future swaps put on by painted fish studio or three sneaky bugs.

Seriously thinking about joining…but I’ve had really bad luck in swaps.

I knitted and felted a tea cozy for my husband for Christmas and it was so fun so knitting/felting another functional item really appeals to me. I’ll let you know before the 16th! Otherwise, good luck! :)
