nope.

saturday’s deadline for the elsie marley mobile swap came and went. and i didn’t send anything out.
i’ve been struggling with ideas. my first idea was to create “globes” of colored string, by paper mache-ing them around small balloons. but the balloons were never a perfect sphere, and the globes looked like string with a lot of glue on them, and not the modern coolness i pictured in my head. on to idea number 2, above: hand cut circles of painted paper backed with old text. hand sew them together, hang. while i like where this is going, it just doesn’t fit my swap partner. and i don’t want to send her something i like, that she may not.
thankfully, i have idea number 3. it’s not a radical departure from my other mobiles, but i think it’s a good solution. now i just need to make it…
happy monday!

Don’t you just hate it when you can’t get an idea out of your head into reality? Happens to me all the time. Sorry it didn’t work out as the idea sounds wonderful. I like what you have going on in the pic too. I can’t believe you hand sewed those nice little perfect stitches. I’m sure whatever you land out it will turn out fabulous.

Love the sphere idea, but see the frustration. whatever you do will be beautiful, i’m sure. have fun!

I am so glad I did not sign up – phwew!! Sorry your first idea did not turn out, but I can picture the concept you have in your head, sounds like a great idea. I do love what you have in the picture above! I’m going through a similar creative process and I will stubbornly keep at it even though I’ve missed a deadline too. I’ve got to get it out of my head and in completed form before I can move on.

i’m sure this was not for naught. those little circles will find their way into something else! what, where, how… maybe you’ll show us when they have a new home in another project!

Hey! I am still busy making mine – I was even worse! I had the idea since the beginning (although I am not sure that it’s going to look as good in reality as it does in my mind) but I didn’t start making it until Sunday – the day after the posting deadline!!

I completely understand what you mean about the globe idea not working out. Been there failed that one too. Why don’t they design round balloons?? My first attempt failed too. I was given a felting combing and mahooosive felting needle contraption (5 needles in one) and decided to felt pieces of felt together. Miss CT is very happy that she has an assortment of felt animals for her felt board and I am going back to the drawing board…..

Nothing is more frustrating than an idea working out better in your head. Papier mache and I are not friends. I often wish I could just come up with ideas and Dale Chihuly-like, just have a studio of underlings to execute them. Lovely dream. Funny how you can take out Dale Chihuly and put in Martha Stewart and it’s still in context. Betcha that doesn’t happen every day.

well, I’m in love with the painted circles/text bit but I understand the angst of worrying whether your swapee will appreciate it…I’ve almost decided to give up swaps because I truely torture myself with worry…”will they like it will they like it…”gaaaah life is too short!
how about stringing up a groovy collection of those “super bouncy balls” you can find in the cheap toy aisle…okay that’s odd, but it might work?
