papier-mâché fish

using the same steps as in my make papier-mâché bowls tutorial, but with a wood fish instead of a bowl. a little chiyogami, a page from an old book, some handmade papers… and a little thread to hang them.

They are absolutely fabulous! I love the disbursement of the papers. That translucent looking one is wonderful. What’s chiyogami? Origami paper?

So are these hollow at the back, or is the wood fish still inside? This is a particularly nice fish shape. I loved the bowls too! Thanks for the tutorial.

this look so cool! the wooden fish stays inside, right??

the wood fish does not stay inside – it is hollow. when covering the wood fish (which is protected by plastic wrap), i place bits of paper around the outer edges by about a half inch. i let it dry overnight, and carefully remove it from the fish form, and the shape is retained!

Wow, how that Japanese paper/old book combination is making me swoon. Was it hard to get the paper off the fish? I had a heck of a time with the bowls, but probably due to user error.
