origami trees

this idea is not a new one here at painted fish studio… some of you will remember seeing a post or two last year about making origami trees, and there are some of you that received a tree last christmas… but! i love folding paper, especially paper that i didn’t buy. and, like 10 people read my blog a year ago, so thought i’d re-share with my new friends.
so, i take catalogs and cut squares from them and fold them up. my favorite catalogs to use are those from paper source or anthropologie. i make my squares between 3 and 6 inches big, and then fold them into a simple tree using these instructions. place heavy books on your trees overnight, or use 2 or 3 mini-brads to keep the tree from unfolding (and they look like ornaments!).
last year i used the trees as gift tags, as ornaments, as cards, as wine tags…

Oh my! These look right up my alley!
Thanks for reposting for your new friends!
(now I have two reasons to go to Anthropologie this weekend, snap some photos of the window, snag a catalog for some trees!)

loved making these trees and origami wreaths, santa hats and stars as end of the year activities with kids in oz. we also used junk mail (makes much cooler trees). adventurous studnents also liked making reindeer and santa’s face. thanks for the trip down memory lane.
i will admit that you have COOLEST kinds of junk mail to play with though. hmmm may be i should go make some stars…
