a little more fabric printing…

my friend heather couldn’t make it to my printing pARTy, so last saturday i brought the pARTy to her. she printed a bunch of towels (all above) using leaves, freezer paper stencils, and a drafting template. they’re beautiful, and will be christmas presents, but i hope she keeps at least one for herself… her husband joined us and created a cool design and stenciled it onto a sweatshirt with freezer paper:

but the best project of the day? a shirt for her son. we had her son, who’s 2.5 oops, he’s 3.5 years old, draw on freezer paper. he drew a simple monster, which was pretty dang good for a kid his age. then he scribbled all over the paper. heather cut out the monster, and decided to cut out a scribble, too. we asked her son what color he wanted (green), and he even did a little printing:

(he’s mostly nekkid to avoid getting paint on his clothes.) we let it dry, and when we finally pulled off the freezer paper, we were amazed at how awesome it turned out. really. it rocks:

it’s my favorite printing project to date. bravo, my favorite little guy (and mom)!

Yea Heather!! All of that rocks! Not sure if Seth at 4 could draw a monster. Though I’ve never asked. And the patience it must have taken to cut out that scribble - amazing!

Wow, that really is cool. I guess artistic talent really is hereditary….

i say you should put that kid to work. that’s amazing! have him make a ton and get him on the craft fair circuit. who wouldn’t buy from a cute 2.5 year old??

I love the leaf prints!

thank you all for the comments. only problem with putting Ryder on the craft fair circuit is that he only wanted to dab the sponge about four times. Then he was done.

This is great. I think I need to try something like this for an upcoming birthday. What type of paint did you use?

Nice job - heather, Ryder and Jen… I wonder which one is mine

that’s amazing! i can’t get over how crisp and clean the stencils are. i would have smudged the paint all over the place!

that green monster top is THE coolest!
can i ask a stupid question? (that wasn’t it).
what is freezer paper and why use it for stencilling? and the 2 circles on the monster - how did you get them to stay in position while you printed? (ok, 2 stupid questions).

freezer paper has a waxy side to it, and we just cut and iron it on! the stencil stays in place, and peels off easily. i wait until the paint is dry before i peel off the stencil.

Love, love, love the printing thing. That monster is so flipp’n cool. Just have him design them and the painting part can be left to the minions.

I love the little shirt! I would have been so pleased to wear a shirt I’d printed myself when I was a kid. And it was a great idea to include some of the scribble in the design.
