how to turn a $24.99 dress into a $56.72 dress

see cute grey dress at target. oooh and ahhh. discover they don’t have your size. order it online. pay $4.98 for shipping. after it arrives 5 days later, eagerly try it on. decide the length, 2 inches below the knees, looks too matronly for your youthful 30-something years. take it to a tailor, pay $26.75 to have it hemmed 3 inches. voilĂ , $56.72.
so much for being frugal. sigh.

Ha! Sounds like something I would do. Lookin’ pretty stylish now though. Love the swirl of dog in the pic. Can’t tell if it’s Hannah or Gus. Hannah?

Looks FAB with those boots! Gotta get me some boots! Don’t you have some friends with sewing skills, that you could have traded favors for or something? I can not believe it cost so much to have the dress hemmed. Holy Cow, I’m thinking I need to get into alterations – I’d have that Nikon D60 in no time for those prices!!

or, stuff it in the “ships anywhere in the US for less than $10 box” from the USPS and mail it to me…I’ll hem it and send it back and you’d still be money ahead…(hummmmm, she says, must teach jen how to hem garments…)or, move to the Twin cities and become quite rich…or, when you come visit MO bring all garments that need altering…we’ll have a good old fashioned sewing bee!

$56.72 is still a great deal for such a cute dress! it looks like a million bucks with those boots.

At least you took it to a tailor, I’ve ruined many a bargain buy thinking I could do this, this or even this ,or else I end up giving them to either of my skinny taller sisters , so I actually took a dress making class last year and can now proudly hem my trousers all by myself, dresses are trickier:)
love the boots too
