wienie on the roof

over the summer, i began to notice big replicas of food in minnesota & wisconsin, and i decided that i should really begin documenting them in polaroid form. a few weeks ago i had the good fortune to be in lindstrom, minnesota, where i could take photographs of the big wienie on the roof of deutschland meats. i really wish the flag pole wasn’t ruining the composition, but it is what it is… most of the other big foods i’ve found are in areas frequented during the summer, so i may wait a few months to resume this series. i think wienie on the roof is a good start.

(and locals, if you have any big foods you think i might not know about, feel free to leave me a tip in the comments!)

Hi, I’m concerned about you. You seem to have wayyy to much fun in NYC and you long for it when you’re not there. Please somehow find a way to move there. Weather it means living in Manhattan or living nearby (there are options) please go and follow whatever is pulling at your heart and muse. I went from Chicago to New England and I’m only a nice drive from NYC. Take care (oh, love your work).

OH MY GOODNESS YOU’VE FOUND MY SECRET TRUE LOVE. Not roof wienies, necessarily, but any animal, food item, or ordinary object made huge. Actually kind of working on a book about this sort of thing…BUT I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT THE ROOF WIENIE!

Ahem. Sorry. I got a little excited there. Now I’m going to have a stupid grin plastered on my face all day!

I drove by a wonderful water tower in the shape of a giant ketchup bottle while I was in southern IL last week that would compliment your wienie on the roof nicely. I thought about asking Steve to pull over so I could take a picture but didn’t. Next time.
