it seems everywhere you turn lately, there are geometrics and bright colors, which i love! this trend also has me reminiscing about my first color theory course, design 1328: color i

we spent the quarter mixing acrylics (usually in printer’s primaries: cyan, magenta, yellow, black) and painting entire sheets of drawing paper. then we cut one-inch strips of the painted paper, and then cut further down to one-inch squares, with a straight-edge and exact-o knife. then we divided each square 2-4 times at 45 degrees with a triangle. finally, we created compositions on grid board to demonstrate principles of color theory, using dry mount to attach the pieces to the grid, all while learning about itten, albers, and munsell…

each composition had to be 6 by 8 inches. the finished piece was mounted on 8-1/2 x 11 grey crescent board, enclosed in a plastic sleeve, housed in a three-ring binder, and accompanied by a write up of the limitations & objectives and visual analysis…

i remember late nights, bleary eyes, fingers sticky from studiotac dry mount adhesive, finding colored triangles under (and in) the bed…

and loving every minute of it.

oh, heavens!!! this brought back so many memories (and nightmares). I know I have my work in the basement……. so cool to see yours.

On a side note, my Mom still laughs that I took a class called “color” while my sister took “biochemistry”. HA!
