*hi* brag books
i’ve been very productive in the last week, which has been a change of pace here at the studio. i’ve been eagerly anticipating the end of the day so i can sit down and resume making.

why am i back in production mode? what took me so long to get back into it? the answer hit me yesterday:

dang. (sigh)

i occasionally watch tv shows online. and i watch a few movies each month via netflix. but i decided to switch things up, and last week my first disk of the series true blood arrived. and i cannot sit and do nothing while watching tv. if i’m going to watch 1-3 episodes in a row, i want to be productive during that time. now i’m zipping through my to-do pile, and adding to my inventory while i watch. last summer, it was buffy the vampire slayer. dexter has gotten me through many, many nights of cutting/gluing/sewing. sometimes i re-watch battlestar galactica or firefly. the wire is next.

i really wish it wasn’t tv that gets me moving. i wish it was something more intellectual, something cerebral… nope… watching consecutive episodes on the boob tube is what gets me antsy to sit down and make. apparently if i get hooked on a series, i’m more productive.

at least i’m watching quality shows, right?!

I have been getting some serious knitting done, but only when the tv is on.
It’s so hot, that I am not really in the mood to knit while outside or doing anything else, but while I am immersed in those addicting storylines the knitting just takes care of itself.

I cannot vouch for the quality of the shows. I can however, tell you that if you were involved in something more cerebral you wouldn’t have the brain power left over to make straight cuts and bubble free glue jobs. I can also assure you that you do take part at other times in more intellectual pursuits thereby spurring your creative bursts for new designs. Count up how many art galleries or travels you been to in the last year. It’s just the productivity section where you need a little entertainment. I do some of my best knitting in front of the tv. Just don’t ask me to design a pattern during that time.

while you create beautiful art you are engaged in an anthropological study of the visual cultural norms of the society you currently find yourself embedded in. this gives you the forum and research matter to hold intellectually stimulating water cooler conversations with your cohorts.

i love jackie’s comment – so true! we signed up for netflix just for dexter and had to try and not watch all of the episodes at once. i definitely watch tv and do something, especially during those zany housewife & ‘reality’ tv shows. i never heard of firefly – will check it out.

totally true for me too. i knit the most when i’m in an alias mode (love. that. show.)

I love having the tv on in the background while knitting. I often listen to podcasts while in the studio. Movies that I’ve already watched before are THE BEST viewing as far as I’m concerned. I heart netflix.

i see nothing wrong with it! if it turns on your productive machine, do it!
