secret, secret

at the end of april i learned a new binding technique at minnesota center for book arts: secret belgian binding. it took me a few tries to get a comfortable tension and understand the sewing order, but once you get going it goes pretty quickly. i’ve got plans for more, and they’re on the list…
(sorry to put styx in your head. i’m still trying to get it out of mine.)

I think I’ll have to try this out and use it as a lesson at one of my book binding guild meetings.
Thanks

I was in that class! I have been reading your blog for a while and admiring your work. Wish I’d realized you were there and said hi.
I really need to make another one soon so I don’t forget how….

very cool! i love that it has a spine that can be done in a contrasting bit. you do know that you make your journals so beautiful that it is very hard to make that first mark on the first page…

I’ve never actually made one, but my current sketchbook is a Secret Belgian. I love how flat it lays, although I need to make some sort of temporary cover for it (think brown-bag book jackets in 7th grade). All the shoving into my bag I’ve been doing is already starting to fray the cords. Don’t need the thing to fall to pieces, mid-sketch!
