amsterdam!

i’m going to amsterdam for my birthday in april! i’ll be staying at the artacasa bed & breakfast: i found the gallery/bed & breakfast while looking up a dutch artist that i love (gineke zikken – arg! they’re having a exhibition of her new work the week after i leave), and it was the only place i really wanted to stay for my next trip. i emailed the gallery over the holidays, and apparently each time they’ve tried to contact me, the email bounced back. (which is weird – spam-like email is generally corralled into a spam folder, but delivery shouldn’t be refused.) they finally gave up on email and called me last week to let me know the dates i wanted to stay there were available (good thing i had a phone number in the signature of the email!).
artacasa is a gallery in the plantage neighborhood, away from the tourist areas (red light district, coffee shops), but in the same area that shane and i stayed in last year. the bed & breakfast is a one bedroom apartment, about a 20 minute walk from the train station, and steps away from the amstel river. the price per night is slightly less than i paid for a very sad hotel room last year, and having a kitchen will be nice and may help curb food expenditures. plus, i can pick artwork from the gallery to have on the walls of the apartment!
now i am able to fully appreciate all the recent hours of freelance work that sometimes drives me crazy after a full day at the office… and i should probably stop complaining about my day job, since i am very fortunate to be able to take a week off and to pay for travel to another continent…

My husband (as man are like, always behind te computer), found this web-log and I am surprised that somebody knows my paintings outside of Holland. How did you get to know me? When you are interested in seeing my paintings you can come to my atelier if you want. It is not far from Artacasa.
(I could not find your name, or which country you are from, (England?))
best regards,
Gineke Zikken
